Formative Instructional Practices (FIP)—FIP Your School® Ohio

FIP_logo_rgb_small-02In 2011, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) partnered with Battelle for Kids (BFK) to launch a five-year, statewide blended learning experience designed to help educators advance the use of formative instructional practices through online learning modules, facilitation materials, and a regional support system.

Helping teachers deepen their skills using formative instructional practices is particularly important as they work to implement Ohio’s Learning Standards and adjust to new measures of effectiveness.

Through our blended learning experience and related efforts with education partners across the country, this campaign had an extended reach and impact by forming communities/networks of practice and opportunities for collaboration through regional specialists, online courses, and a variety of support resources.

The mission of the campaign was to make every school in Ohio a FIP School—a school committed to improving student achievement through the use of FIP. In addition to creating the FIP Your School® Ohio brand identity, BFK worked with ODE to develop a comprehensive marketing and communications plan, including strategies and tactics to build awareness and engage educators in the learning experience. BFK developed a variety of marketing and communications tools for this campaign, including brochures, an overview video, a FIP Your School® Ohio website, and a variety of promotional articles, eblasts, social media posts, and conference presentations.

“I am really proud of the great work our team has done in sharing information about FIP Your School. Part of the success of the communications plan has been its collaborative nature—a combined effort of BFK, our Race to the Top team, curriculum and assessment staff, and our regional FIP Specialists at the ESC level. In one year, we enrolled over 20,000 educators in our courses and received signed partnership agreements from 230+ LEAs.”
