This forward-thinking panel discussion, moderated by Mike Duncan, Ed.D., president and CEO of Battelle for Kids, has been submitted for consideration at SXSW EDU in 2025 and will explore innovative ways to measure Portrait of a Graduate durable skills.
“Future Ready Impact: Redefining How Schools Measure Success,” in partnership with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Educational Testing Service (ETS), and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (North Carolina), will delve into the methodologies and frameworks being developed and implemented to evaluate essential skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, resilience, empathy, communication, and more. Drawing on the statewide Portrait of a Graduate work in North Carolina and insights from recent educational research, this discussion will provide attendees with insight into the practical strategies for shifting competency-based learning into the mainstream and reinventing assessment practices to better prepare students for future success.
